The Cloud Rider

This page is a description of the Cloud Rider, which this whole website is dedicated to, as the domain name suggests.

As you can tell by now, from the content of other pages, this site is all about YHWH and the Bible. This page is no exception, so we will examine the passages from the bible that make reference to the Cloud Rider and then we can identify who the rider is.

Let’s start with some passages that include clouds. Here are a group of passages from the HCSB version (sourced and searched on Biblegateway.com) of the Bible that indicate a consistent pattern of clouds mentioned.

This first group is from Exodus:

Exodus 13:21
The Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to lead them on their way during the day and in a pillar of fire to give them light at night, so that they could travel day or night.
Exodus 13:22
The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night never left its place in front of the people.
Exodus 14:19
Then the Angel of God, who was going in front of the Israelite forces, moved and went behind them. The pillar of cloud moved from in front of them and stood behind them.
Exodus 14:20
It came between the Egyptian and Israelite forces. The cloud was there in the darkness, yet it lit up the night. So neither group came near the other all night long.
Exodus 16:10
As Aaron was speaking to the entire Israelite community, they turned toward the wilderness, and there in a cloud the Lord’s glory appeared.
Exodus 19:9
The Lord said to Moses, “I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear when I speak with you and will always believe you.” Then Moses reported the people’s words to the Lord.
Exodus 34:5
The Lord came down in a cloud, stood with him there, and proclaimed His name Yahweh.
Exodus 40:34
[ The Lord’s Glory ] The cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
Exodus 40:35
Moses was unable to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud rested on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
Exodus 40:38
For the cloud of the Lord was over the tabernacle by day, and there was a fire inside the cloud by night, visible to the entire house of Israel throughout all the stages of their journey.

So from these passages we can see that there are many instances of clouds that are associated with the Lord or the Angel of the Lord, and usually in conjuction with the tent of meeting, or leading the isrealites. (Note there are a number of other old testament passages that do the same that are not included here).

Our next passages may give it away, but there is still more to come!

Psalm 68:4
Sing to God! Sing praises to His name. Exalt Him who rides on the clouds — His name is Yahweh—and rejoice before Him.
Psalm 99:7
He spoke to them in a pillar of cloud; they kept His decrees and the statutes He gave them.
Psalm 104:3
laying the beams of His palace on the waters above, making the clouds His chariot, walking on the wings of the wind,

So now its obvious that the one who rides the clouds is Yahweh (YHWH), or the Lord, as indicated in Isaiah as follows:
Isaiah 19:1
[ An Oracle against Egypt ] An oracle against Egypt: Look, the Lord rides on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt. Egypt’s idols will tremble before Him, and Egypt’s heart will melt within it.

Here’s where it starts to get interesting:
Daniel 7:13
I continued watching in the night visions, and I saw One like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was escorted before Him.

Now wait a minute, the Ancient of Days is Yahweh, but not we have another approaching him on the clouds! This is the Son of Man.

Ok so maybe its not as obvious as we first thought. Let’s see what the new testament has to offer. We’ll start with Matthew, which is very interesting.

Matthew 17:5
While he was still speaking, suddenly a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said: This is My beloved Son. I take delight in Him. Listen to Him!
Matthew 24:30
“Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Matthew 26:64
“You have said it,” Jesus told him. “But I tell you, in the future you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
In 17:5, The Lord (the Father here) is speaking from a cloud and referring to Jesus, his son. Then in 24:30 we have the Son of Man again on the clouds. BUT, then we have Jesus, talking about the Son of Man coming on the clouds of Heaven!

Parallel passages to these in Matthew are also in Mark and Luke.

Acts 1:9
[ The Ascension ] After He had said this, He was taken up as they were watching, and a cloud took Him out of their sight.
This is the point when the disciples see Jesus taken up in a cloud (presumably to heaven). Now we also have:

1 Thessalonians 4:17

Then we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so we will always be with the Lord.
This is the resurrection of the saints by Jesus when he returns.

And finally, we have the references in Revelation:

Revelation 1:7
Look! He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, including those who pierced Him. And all the families of the earth will mourn over Him. This is certain. Amen.
Revelation 14:14
[ Reaping the Earth’s Harvest ] Then I looked, and there was a white cloud, and One like the Son of Man was seated on the cloud, with a gold crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand.
Revelation 14:15
Another angel came out of the sanctuary, crying out in a loud voice to the One who was seated on the cloud, “Use your sickle and reap, for the time to reap has come, since the harvest of the earth is ripe.”
Revelation 14:16
So the One seated on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.

So here we have Jesus, who was pierced, coming on the clouds in the exact same was as the Son of man in other passages, and similarly to Yahweh in other passages.

So what can we conclude? Jesus, who is the Son of Man, and who is a man, but is also Yahweh, and who was, before his embodiment as Jesus of Nazareth, the Angel of the Lord from the old testament, is the Cloud Rider!!!
